They say one can tell alot about a place by looking to the people that founded it. The history of Orenco, Oregon is a rich one with story lines running through the 19th & 20th Century American Experience. The Oregon Nursery Company was founded by two Scottish men and was built on the hands and backs of Hungarian immigrants. Many other joined in the towns construction in the period of 1908 to 1920. The structures reflected the finest in Arts and Crafts designs and materials. Wooden boardwalks and tree lined streets graced the community which became an economic power. The company specialized in fruit trees and the growth and production of new varieties. Famous for many things the Orenco Apple was the pinnacle of the companies work;
“Orenco is a medium to large fruit with bright, beautiful, red skin. Tender, crisp, juicy white flesh. Orenco is very sweet and piquant flavor. Light bearer. Must be picked as soon as it is ripe. Scab resistant.”
