Last week we notified all of you that the City had heard your voices. Almost 100 locals signed the online petition to get to the bottom line on what we all viewed as a dangerous and very inconvenient road construction from the MAX Light Rail to Cornell Road. The Orenco Station, The Platform at Orenco, and the MAX light rail have been some of the wort traffic snarls anywhere in Portland for what seems like years.
Recently many of the neighbors have seen near misses with pedestrians and cars and road crews have worked sparsely and seem unhappy and short with the locals. After presenting the petition and meeting with the City they have responded and there is some movement and some light at the end of the tunnel coming soon. It turns out that these projects are being done by the developer Holland Corporation and teh City has had less control or involvement then most of thought.
231st Avenue & Cornell Road Orenco Update
Here is their response:
Hopefully everyone has a great appreciation that this took the City time to respond to. Without the support of so many local people who stepped forward this could not have been accomplished. Road can get better. A sidewalk will be a really great addition. Safe pedestrian travel is of supreme importance to me and everyone else in Orenco. The great thing is that a group of us came together and went to the city and they responded to our input. That is a great outcome. Stay Vigilant and let us all keep an eye on this project for these planned improvements and dates!
